NEWS OF THE WEEK

13th March ... Canadian Transport Agency approve WestJet codeshare agreeements with Air New Zealand and Fiji Airways.

16th March ... Pacific Coastal announce $20 fuel surcharge effective 22nd.  Most airlines will be doing the same, the average surcharge on a longhaul flight will be US$ 200.

17th March ... US DOJ approves Allegiant - Sun Country merger which is the next step towards the combination of the two airlines, with Allegiant acquiring SY.  Presumably the Minneapolis St Paul MN [MSP] route network including YVR and the MLS charter contracts are both lucrative enough to remain and would be the reason for the acquisition.  It remains to be seen if the SY brand will remain.

19th March ... American Airlines AA1415 lunch time Dallas Fort Worth TX [DFW] seems to be switching from 737-800 to a mix of A321NEO and 737-8.

19th March ... AI185 from Delhi had to return as apparently the 777-200LR used in place of the usual 777-300ER is not certified to operate in Canada.  This is certainly a recent development as the variant has operated the route in the past.

19th March ... KF Aerospace (Kelowna Flightcraft Air Charter) founder and chairman Barry Lapointe awarded the Order of Canada for a lifetime of dedication to aviation, philanthropy, entrepreneurship and community and the championship of education in skilled trades for the next generations.

20th March ... relevant here with their Victoria connection, de Havilland Canada announce completion of the 1000th Twin Otter, a series 400 registered C-FHLP destined for Colombian government airline SATENA to become HK-5469.

20th March ... Jim Liu of AeroRoutes posts Air Canada will add AC516/7 787-9 Saturday service to Honolulu HI [HNL] through May.

20th March ... YVR awarded Skytrax winner of the best airport in North America, top 20 airports in the world and the Fairmont Hotel 3rd best airport hotel.

21st March ... Delta subbed the A220-100 from the now usual -300 on DL2482 from Minneapolis St Paul MN [MSP] which indicated equipment may vary.
