NEWS OF THE WEEK
15th April ... as above, first Air Canada A321-271XLR (fin 301) registered C-GXLR (first flew 27th February 2026) and finally delivered 24th. Next five reg's will be GXAN (302), GXAU (303), GXBK (304), GXER (305) and GXBU (306), all awaiting first flight. Configuration is C14Y168.
17th April ... Harbour Air announce new flights from Victoria Harbour [YWH] to Friday Harbor marina on San Juan Island WA until 21st October.
18th April ... RCAF Snowbirds are in Comox [YQQ] doing their spring training until 9th May, they can be seen on FR24 as SNBDx.
19th April ... T'Way Air stock has been re-named Trinity Airways on the South Korean stock exchange. A new A330-900 was rolled out three days later in Toulouse wearing the new tail livery.
21st April ... Air Canada announce cancellation of direct Fort McMurray [YMM] from 28th May. Flight is operated by an AC Express Dash 8-Q400 with a 2.5 hour block time.
21st April ... Air Canada announce next routes to be transferred to Rouge 737-8. Nicely summarized by Jim Liu at Aero Routes as follows: Toronto to Victoria 27th-31st May, Anchorage [ANC] 9th May - 29th June, Austin [AUS] 8th May - 29th June, Calgary [YYC] until 30th June, Halifax [YHZ] 5th June - 30th June, Honolulu [HNL] from 16th May, Miami [MIA] until 29th June, Nashville [BNA] 7th May - 30th June, Phoenix [PHX] until 30th June, Quebec City [YQB] 1st - 29th June and San Francisco [SFO] 1st - 30th June.
21st April ... as part of the new trade agreement, the federal government announce an increase in the number of direct flights between Canada and China as well as dedicated cargo flights up to 20 per week.
22nd April ... Flair Airlines announce a new route to Guanajuato from 3rd October. This is near Leon called Leon/Bajio International airport, code BJX. This is the first route to Canada, it is a hub for Viva Aerobus and Volaris and is also served by Aeromexico, American and United.
22nd April ... Jim Liu of Aero Routes reports Air India are reducing Delhi from daily to 5x weekly excluding Monday & Wednesday between 1st - 31st May.
23rd April ... WestJet confirm their revised checked bag fees due to increasing fuel prices. The first and secong bag prepaid online will be an extra $5 or $10 at the airport, then $50 for excess, overweight and oversized baggage. Last week Air Canada increased basic fare bag fee from $35 to $45.
24th April ... Jim Liu of Aero Routes reports Hong Kong Airlines will go daily with A330-300 from 25th October - 30th November and 1st - 24th March 2027 (4x weekly in between) though further changes are expected. HX80/1 arr 1905 dep 0005 +1.
FOR THE DIARY - from YVR unless stated
1st May ... Jim Liu of AeroRoutes posts Air France will operate the 777-300ER on a one off replacement of the usual A350-900. AF374 arr YVR 1100 dep 1310.
2nd May ... Condor seasonal starts with A330-900 5x daily until 25th October. Codeshares are offered before, after and on the other two days via Toronto on WestJet or Seattle on Alaska.
4th May ... first British A/W summer seasonal Gatwick [LGW] flight with 777-200ER BA2278/9 arr 1330 dep 1530 until 18th September. Schedule now remains 787-8 on second Heathrow [LHR] flight BA86/7 until 20th June, it will be 787-9 29th June one day only and reverts to 777-200ER 1st July until 1st September when it reverts back to 787-8 until last flight 1st October. Year round BA84/5 switches back to A350-1000 6th July until 8th September when it reverts to 777-200ER for the winter season. It seems equipment changes are not unusual meanwhile.
5th May ... Edelweiss Air seasonal starts with A350-900 4x weekly and daily from 13th June until 10th September and back to 4x weekly until 22nd October.
11th May ... provisional final KF Aerospace CV5800 (stretched 580) service (all 580's already now retired).
13th May ... Porter A/L commence Kelowna [YLW] from Ottawa [YOW].
15th May ... WestJet Encore recommence Penticton [YYF].
19th May ... WestJet Encore commence Terrace [YXT] from Edmonton [YEG].
19th May ... KLM upgrade from 787-10 to 777-300ER until 26th October when it reverts to A330-200. I have seen many one off equipment changes over the past few weeks.
21st May ... American A/L to operate A321N on AA1719 from Los Angeles [LAX] until 4th August.
23rd May ... Delta A/L resume Atlanta GA [ATL]. Equipment is 737-900ER DL2470/1871 arr 1225 dep 1340.
5th June ... ANA commence seasonal Narita [NRT] service until 31st August with 787-9 to complement their existing Haneda [HND] service.
15th June ... Porter A/L commence Montreal St Hubert [YHU].
19th June ... WestJet commence Comox [YQQ] from Toronto [YYZ].
25th June ... Harbour Air commence downtown Vancouver Coal Harbour [CXH] to Ucluelet [AN3].
6th July ... Harbour Air commence downtown Vancouver Coal Harbour [CXH] to Campbell River, The Spit water aerodrome [YHH] opposed to YBL.
25th July ... Vanderhoof airshow, also 26th for a two day event celebrating 100 years of Vanderhoof.
1st August ... Air Canada weekly AC315/6 787-9 service to Honolulu [HNL] until 7th September.
7th August ... Abbotsford Airshow, also 8th and 9th.
15th August ... Chilliwack Flight Fest.
22nd August ... Air North resume seasonal Yellowknife [YZF].
December ... new Air Canada (Rouge) seasonal services : 3rd Monterrey [MTY], 7th Puerto Escondido [PXM], 13th Liberia [LIR], 15th Mazatlan [MZT] and 17th Sapporo-Chitose [CTS] (mainline).
